Brooklyn Dodgers (1951)
1951: .280 avg, 37 games, 50 at-bats
Manager: Charlie Dressen. Teammates included Jackie Robinson, PeeWee Reese, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Don Newcombe, etc.
Highlights: turning a double play, Terwilliger to Robinson to Hodges, against rookie batter Willie Mays; pinch-hitting for Robinson and getting a game-winning single (see photo below)
Lowlight: watching Bobby Thompson hit a Ralph Branca fastball out of the park--"The Shot Heard 'Round the World"--as the Giants won the pennant in a special playoff game.
Sitting on the equipment trunk, Twig leaned forward to watch the ball, and fell off.
