The Astros spent most of the season in first place and ended up in third. First baseman Mike Easler was a good hitter who was developing his fielding skills in the minors; he was called up to the Houston Astros in September and spent more than a dozen years in the majors. Good fans and crowd-pleasing promotions made the season especially enjoyable, Twig says.
