Ft. Worth Cats (2003-), Central League and American Association, independent
The Cats beat San Angelo for the 2005 Central League championship after beating Pensacola in the first-round playoffs. It is Ft. Worth's first championship since 1948.
They won both halves with identical 30-17 records, a franchise record for wins in a season. The Cats also made the playoffs in 2003, his first season as manager.
Twig was named 2005 Central League Manager of the Year and managed the league All-Star team against the Can-Am League stars in Brockton, Mass., in July.
Following the 2005 season, Twig resigned as manager but later agreed to serve as first base coach. The Cats repeated their
league championship in 2006 and 2007, both times beating the St. Paul Saints in the newly reconstituted American Association.
Twig extends the team's historic connection with the old Brooklyn Dodgers. He was on the 1951 Dodgers along with former Cats Duke Snider, Carl Erskine,
Chris Van Cuyk, and Cal Abrams, and on the 1952 St. Paul Saints (the Dodgers' AAA team) with Danny Ozark.
