Burlington (1966), Class B, Carolina League

Among the people Twig remembers from Burlington...

Outfielder Rich Billings, who became a major league catcher after Twig recommended that the Senators give him a try. Shortstop Eddie "Stick" Griffith, speedy on the bases and always eager to run.

Pitchers Dick Such, later a fellow coach with the Minnesota Twins, and Bill Haywood, an assistant coach at North Carolina University, who would wait along the highway in Chapel Hill for the team bus to pick him up.

With a record of 76-62, Twig's team finished second to Raleigh, managed by Twig's former Kansas City teammate (and later manager of the Red Sox) Joe Morgan.

Forward to Hawaii (1967)
